What goes into a proper coating application?
Step 1: Prep Clean/Wash
The very first step is to clean every surface and to strip them bare of anything already “protecting” them. There are many more steps than a traditional car wash to ensure the coating bonds properly. First we pre-wash the vehicle, then do a traditional wash, then do a chemical iron decontamination, follow with a clay bar, and finally do a final wipe down. At this point the surfaces should feel smooth and be ready for coating. This first step can take hours depending on how much of the vehicle is being coated.
Step 2: Surface Refinement
Depending on the type of customer we are dealing with at this stage we talk about refining your vehicles paint or other surfaces. Ceramic coatings are the hardest coatings on the market and for that reason it’s important to discuss what imperfections are to be removed and which are to be covered. At minimum we recommend a single stage polish/correction process as this will greatly improve the lifetime and effectiveness of the product.
Step 3: Applying the Coating
Interestingly enough this may be the simplest step. The process of applying a coating is either through wiping the product on or spraying depending on the surfaces to be coated, letting it flash, and then quickly leveling it. Sorry for the technical talk, but the important thing to note here is like many things in life the prep and refinement steps are most important. Depending on the amount of prep needed the turn around time on a coating can be 1-3 days or longer for bespoke jobs.
Coating FAQs
-
“Ceramic” has become the newest buzzword in the industry meaning silica-infused. Yes there are many silica infused products at auto stores and on Amazon, and I would even say some could qualify as a proper coating. No matter the product though the results still heavily rely on a proper preparation of the surface. The difference between a cheap coating and professional installed coating should be incredibly and immediately obvious.

From the factory to your hands your car has traveled by truck, train, and ship. It has been on many parking lots and inside many warehouses. Also, paint quality is not extremely high from the manufacturer and there is typically much room for improvement. That being said your new vehicle might require one super easy, quick polish pass to be ready! There’s only one way to know for sure… bring it to us and lets take a look.

A ceramic coating is not a forcefield, and while it will clean easier and resist marring better than your vehicle’s paint it still should be maintained properly. Coatings will make maintaining your vehicle more fun, and will reward a proper wash. We do not recommend any vehicle go through an automatic wash because of all the variables out of your control. DO NOT let an installer convince you a ceramic coating is the answer to this question… it is a common snake oil practice. If this topic interests you reach out to our team and lets get techy!

Absolutely! And we highly recommend it. Especially on matte/satin vinyl as it greatly increases its stain resistance. Coatings will also add UV fading resistance and improve the lifespan of wrap vinyl. Some PPF products even have ceramic qualities built into their top layers, so they are hydrophobic to begin with and those qualities are only improved with a coating.
